DINING TABLE

The Cloud Table is a commissioned piece for Emily's House, Toronto's first children's hospice.  The dining table's unconventional shape stems from a careful study of how wheelchairs and their users interact with a table.  The repeating round shape of this table top allows wheelchairs to pull in tight to the table surface, giving users a range of motion and reach across the surface equal to those sitting in a standard side chair.  Each of the four legs is unique and hand turned to provide a familiar aesthetic often associated with the harvest table and the idea of 'home', a theme that is carries through the different spaces in the hospice.

The Cloud Table was a collaborative project with Lauren Reed (also of Fieldhouse, Ford + Reed).

ENTRY BENCH

Geppetto’s Boy is a reference to Carlo Collodi’s 1883 novel, Pinocchio.  Inspired by the unusual proportions of the lying puppet’s nose, this maple entryway bench is perched on four simple hand-turned legs, one of which projects through its seat to become a system of coat hooks and mirrors that spin and adjust to suit the varying heights of its users.  The seat is shaped to highlight its minimal, asymmetric aesthetic and provides an inviting and playful character.

This piece was originally featured in Do Design 2013 as part of Toronto's Design Offsite Festival. It has since been featured on a number of design blogs and in Azure and International Architecture & Design magazines. It can be custom-made to fit your preference in wood, finish, space and functional requirements.

SIDE TABLE

Intersect is a simple and elegant family of occasional tables inspired by the classical trestle table.  The well-proportioned side table is ideal for multiple residential uses.  It is light enough to move throughout the house, making it highly functional and versatile, while its cantilevered form and height allow it to be pulled in close to most lounge chairs and sofas.  The chamfer on the round table edge and its two-legged base give it a visual lightness allowing it to blend seamlessly into most contemporary spaces.  The design highlights its solid wood construction and refined wood joinery details.

Intersect was first featured at Toronto's Interior Design Show in 2013. The side table is available in a range of finishes and locally-sourced, domestic hardwoods including ash, maple, black walnut, white oak and cherry. Stay tuned for additional pieces in the intersect collection.

CREDENZA

Balance’s function stems from the need to house one’s vinyl record collection, however its ground-hugging proportions lend themselves to a variety of uses as a low credenza. The juxtaposing asymmetry of the piece coupled with its cantilevered forms, give it a unique sense of tension and balance.

While the cabinet interior is clear - to provide ample space for vinyl - it may be customized to include shelves or drawers. This piece is available in ash (as shown) and other domestic hardwoods.

SERVING TRAY

Nester is a simple maple serving tray whose genesis stemmed from the British tradition of serving soft-boiled eggs with “soldiers” (strips of toast that one can dip into the eggs’ yolk).  Nester provides both a stand that accommodates two eggs and a dished surface for sides. In an attempt to create a more versatile product, the tray’s stand can be replaced with additional inserts (such as a sauce/condiment cup) to allow it to be used for a number of different dining occasions.

Nester was designed and produced collaboratively with Courtney Black, Kevin Jones and Jesse Wilson.
